Hello, I'm Stella.

As an artist I am continually evolving and my paintings show my deep love for color, expressive brushstrokes and the emotional connection to the places that I travel to. After many years of teaching visual arts, it was my dream to find a studio space and paint. I have been painting full time since 2018.

I am drawn to exploring the interplay between abstraction and figuration, finding particular fascination in the transitional space that bridges the two.

“ I could never mirror nature. I would more like to paint what it leaves with me.” Joan Mitchell

I use an intuitive approach to mark-making, resulting in vibrant and expressive paintings that evoke the moods and atmospheres of the places I've been. I pay homage to the Abstract Expressionists and the ability to let loose on the canvas.

My techniques and colour palette evolve along with the creative process, reflecting my experiences and connection to the natural environment.

ARTIST STATEMENT

“My art is a vibrant exploration of connection, identity, and the emotive power of place. Inspired by the interplay of land and sea, from the bay near my Mordialloc studio to the shores of my ancestral Greece, I create abstract and semi-abstract paintings that bridge distances both physical and emotional. Through expressive brushstrokes and a palette that echoes the vivid hues of coastal landscapes, I seek to capture the essence of spaces that hold deep personal and cultural significance.

Each piece is a dialogue between memory and presence, inviting viewers to reflect on their own connections to place and identity. I strive to create works that resonate with an energetic frequency, evoking both nostalgia and a sense of timeless belonging.

As an artist, I am deeply committed to the creative process, constantly challenging myself to evolve and find new ways to express these universal themes. I draw inspiration from the natural world, my Greek heritage, and the rich tapestry of human experience. Through my art, I aim to create a space for contemplation and emotional resonance, where viewers can explore their own relationships with home, culture, and the landscapes that shape us.

My passion for art extends beyond the canvas. I am dedicated to fostering a vibrant artistic community, particularly championing women in the arts through collaborations, mentoring, and curated exhibitions. I believe in the power of art to connect, heal, and inspire, and I approach each project with enthusiasm, focus, and a drive to push the boundaries of my practice.” Stella
